Predestination is one of those theological hot topics that has divided Christians for centuries.
The question at the heart of it all is this: does God predetermine who will be saved and who will be lost, or do we have genuine free will to choose or reject Him? It’s a conversation that’s sparked countless debates, split denominations, and left many believers confused about what the Bible actually teaches.
Here’s my take after years of wrestling with Scripture: while some verses seem to support predetermined election, there are far more passages that emphasize human choice, God’s universal love, and our genuine responsibility to respond to the gospel.
If predestination in the Calvinistic sense were true, that God has already decided who’s in and who’s out before anyone is even born, then whole sections of the Bible become confusing at best and contradictory at worst.
Why would Jesus weep over Jerusalem if He’d already predetermined they would reject Him? Why would God say He desires all people to be saved if He’s only chosen a select few?
Why would the Bible be filled with urgent calls to repent, believe, and choose life if none of that actually matters because the decision was made before time began?
Bible Verses That Disprove Predestination
- 2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
- 1 Timothy 2:3-4
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
- John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
- Ezekiel 18:23
Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

Our Summary on What The Bible Says That Disproves Predestination
When you read Scripture with fresh eyes, the theme of human choice and God’s universal invitation becomes impossible to ignore. God consistently presents Himself as desiring all people to be saved, not just a predetermined elect.
He takes no pleasure in anyone’s death but wants everyone to repent and live. These aren’t empty words or pretend invitations, they’re genuine expressions of God’s heart.
The doctrine of predestination in its strictest form creates serious theological problems. If God has already chosen who will be saved regardless of their response, then why does Jesus command us to preach the gospel to everyone?
Why the urgent calls throughout Scripture to repent, believe, and choose life? Why would God hold people accountable for rejecting a salvation they were never truly offered? These questions don’t have satisfying answers if you hold to predetermined election.
What we see instead is a God who genuinely loves the whole world, who provided atonement for everyone’s sins, and who invites whoever will come to receive salvation freely. Yes, God foreknows who will accept His offer, but foreknowledge isn’t the same as predetermination.
He sees the end from the beginning, but that doesn’t mean we’re robots following a script. We have real choices with real consequences. The whosoever verses throughout Scripture make it clear: salvation is available to anyone who will receive it by faith.
Say This Prayer That Disproves Predestination
Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your invitation to salvation is real and available to everyone. Thank You for not playing favorites or predetermining who’s in and who’s out before we’re even born.
Your Word makes it clear that You desire all people to be saved and that You take no pleasure in anyone’s death. I’m grateful that I can choose to follow You, that my decision to believe matters, and that You genuinely want a relationship with me.
Help me never take for granted the fact that You’ve given me the freedom to accept or reject Your grace. Strengthen my faith and help me live in a way that honors the choice I’ve made to follow Jesus.
Use me to share this good news with others who need to know that Your arms are open wide to anyone who will come. Thank You for making salvation available to the whole world through Jesus Christ. In His name, Amen.
