We live in a world where exploitation seems almost normal. From predatory lending to workplace manipulation, from taking credit for someone else’s work to leveraging someone’s vulnerability for personal gain, the temptation to use others for our benefit is everywhere.
Maybe you’ve been on the receiving end of this, feeling the sting of being used by someone you trusted. Or perhaps you’re wrestling with your own actions, wondering if you’ve crossed that line.
The Bible doesn’t tiptoe around this issue. Scripture repeatedly confronts those who would exploit the weak, manipulate the vulnerable, or use their position to benefit at another’s expense.
God’s heart burns with justice for the oppressed and warnings for the oppressor. Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, we see a consistent message: how we treat others, especially those with less power or resources, reveals the true condition of our hearts.
This isn’t just about following rules; it’s about reflecting God’s character in a world desperate for genuine compassion and fairness.

Our Thoughts on What The Bible Says About Not Taking Advantage of Others
God takes exploitation personally. When we oppress the vulnerable, withhold fair wages, or manipulate others for our gain, we’re not just breaking social contracts; we’re insulting our Creator.
The Bible makes it clear that how we treat the powerless, the poor, the foreigners, and the marginalized directly reflects our relationship with God. The consistency across Scripture is striking.
From the Old Testament laws protecting day laborers and widows to the New Testament commands about loving our neighbors, God’s message never wavers. Justice isn’t optional, and fairness isn’t just for those who can afford lawyers.
Every person deserves dignity, honest treatment, and protection from those who would use power, position, or wealth to exploit them.
What’s particularly sobering is that God promises to personally intervene on behalf of the oppressed. He hears their cries, sees their mistreatment, and will hold the exploiters accountable. This should make us examine our own lives honestly.
Are we fair in business? Do we pay people what they’re worth? Do we use our influence to help or to manipulate? These aren’t just ethical questions; they’re spiritual ones that reveal who we really are.
Say This Prayer
Heavenly Father, search my heart and show me where I’ve taken advantage of others, even in small ways. Forgive me for the times I’ve prioritized my gain over someone else’s dignity.
Give me Your eyes to see people as You see them, not as opportunities to exploit but as image bearers deserving respect and fairness. Help me to be generous with my resources, honest in my dealings, and protective of the vulnerable.
When I have power or influence, let me use it to lift others up, not push them down. Make me quick to notice injustice and brave enough to speak against it.
Transform my heart so that loving my neighbor becomes as natural as breathing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
